Hinckley
Under 13’s sponsored by JC Remedials, had an uneasy start
to their match, with both teams striving to secure territory
through their kicking. Hinckley began to take the game to
Harborough’s line with good work by their forwards. Great supply
of ball and a good run by McLeish took Hinckley deeper into
Harborough territory, and with the Hinckley forwards securing and
recycling the ball, it was Steptoe who claimed the first score for
Hinckley, converted by Tuilagi. The game was evenly matched but
Harborough managed quick ball to their back line to find their
wing, who ran in an equalising score and conversion. Hinckley’s
forwards continued to work effectively during the game winning
scrums and dominating rucks and mauls, with their hard work
rewarded with another try in the corner for Hinckley, scored by
McMurran. Harborough fought back with another well worked move by
the backs to the wing, to go over the line and convert to go ahead
in the game just before half time, score Hinckley 12 Harborough
14. Hinckley though had a dream start to the second half, with a
great kick and chase securing the ball, and quick hands enabling
Hinckley to score their third try by Mechin, which was converted
by Tuilagi for the full 7 points. The game then settled with
Hinckley giving a few simple penalties away but Harborough unable
to make the most of them. Hinckley dominated the half with good
ball skills and great work by the forwards for a good win. Final
score Hinckley 19 - Harborough 14.
Hinckley’s
Under 14’s, sponsored by Williams Recycling, had a rude
awakening when early pressure from the kick-off from Market
Harborough’s organised forwards threatened Hinckley’s line. With
Harborough sensing their opportunity, a handling error saw the
ball go loose, which Hinckley’s Lally was quick to exploit with a
full pace pick up. The back-line offload to an unstoppable Cull
set-up the first try of the match for Hinckley, converted by Lally.
With Hinckley now confident, Harborough became pressured, and
Lally charged down a Harborough clearance kick to claim the second
score and conversion. Hinckley continued the pressure through two
further breaks and scores by Cull, completing his hat-trick, with
Lally converting, and Wilson finishing off the first half with a
fine flanker’s try, for a half-time lead 0-33 to Hinckley. Market
Harborough’s well organised forwards continued to be difficult for
Hinckley to break down, but eventually Hinckley’s West found a way
through to score, with Lally converting. Market Harborough’s
perseverance was then rewarded when their inventive centre and
fullback combining to break through Hinckley’s lines and secure a
corner score. Hinckley form was soon restored though, against the
spirited Harborough opposition, and Hinckley stretched ahead
through further scores by West, Abelson, and Bresland, with a
Lally conversion taking the final result to Market Harborough 5 –
Hinckley 57.
The
Hinckley Under 16’s, sponsored by J and H Construction, met
a well organised Harborough side, but Hinckley had the slope and
wind with them and through their pack, pressured their way into
the Harborough half. After several phases of play, the bullish
Bailey forced his way over with Rooney converting. Further attacks
came through the forwards, only for the ball to break loose and
Oatridge to sprint 30 metres followed by an Oaglesby conversion.
After half time it was Hinckley's turn to show resolute defence
and only let one score in, for a fine result for the away side,
Market Harborough 5 - Hinckley 14.
