“U13s overcome Melborne, and
U16s stretch ahead at Old Scouts,
as U14s through to County Cup Semi-finals”
Hinckley
Under 13s, sponsored by JC Remedials, had a great start in
their match against Melborne, as Tuilagi charged down an early
Melborne clearance kick, and set off on a good run to take the
game to Melborne. The Hinckley forwards dominated the play with
great rucking and driving, eventually driving over the line for
Phillips to put the first points on the board for Hinckley,
converted by Tuilagi. Hinckley continued to dominate play and
territory and a great set move to switch the direction of play,
released Mechin who took the ball at pace to run through and score
Hinckley’s second, again converted by Tuilagi. Hinckley then made
good use of a penalty, and spun the ball out the backs, which set
Tuilagi up to score Hinckley’s third try before half time. Half
time score Hinckley 19 - Melbourne 0. Hinckley re-started well
with a great cross-field kick to Mechin who gained Hinckley
territory with a great run. A well-worked scrum from Hinckley
released quick ball to the backs, which set-up to Mechin to run in
and under the posts for another Hinckley score, converted by
Tuilagi. Hinckley continued to dominate throughout the game,
despite a spirited Melborne performance. Final score Hinckley 26 -
Melbourne 0.
The
Under 14s, sponsored by Williams Recycling, faced Belgrave
in the second round of their County Cup, and despite a determined
performance from Belgrave, were too strong, running in tries by
Cull, Simpson, Abelson, Redhead, Walsh, Cook, West, Lally, Joynes,
with Lally slotting conversions, taking the Hinckley team through
to the semi-finals in January. Man of the Match was
awarded to Lally for his committed runs, creative play, and solid
tackling.
The
Under 16s, sponsored by J & H Construction Ltd, travelled
to Northampton Old Scouts this weekend. Hinckley stared slowly and
went behind immediately to a try. This kick-started Hinckley into
action when scrum half Marsden chipped the opposition and Morris
was first to react collecting the ball to go in at the corner.
Rooney converted from a wide angle. Hinckley pressure secured good
territory in the Scouts 22 where Moule picked and drove his way
over for another score, which Rooney converted again. Scouts then
carved through for another converted try. Hinckley then broke from
midfield where Abelson kicked long, and collected his kick to go
over in the other corner, which Rooney converted, from the other
touchline this time. Scouts then conceded a penalty from 30m out
which Hinckley were quick to claim and duly popped over. Scouts
came back for another converted try. After great rucking, Hinckley
forced themselves into the 22, and then switched the ball out to
centre Bouchard who crashed over for Rooney to convert once more.
This effectively sealed the game although Scouts did score again,
to pull back. This was a fine away win for Hinckley. Northampton
Old Scouts 26 – Hinckley 31.
