“Teams battle conditions, as
Under 16’s through to County Plate Finals”
Hinckley’s
Under 8’s sponsored by O'Hanlon & Skinner, enjoyed a strong
first match winning Hinckley 35 - Towcester 25. Hinckley played a
fast and flowing first game despite the wet and cold conditions to
secure their win. Roan scored three tries, Lewis crossed the line
twice and B.Gummery scored his first try for Hinckley. A borrowed
player scored the other try.
The
scores were reversed in the second game against Lutterworth,
Hinckley 25 - Lutterworth 35. Cavanagh touched down twice for
Hinckley with one each for Davies, Moore and Roan.
Hinckley
Under 10’s Bees sponsored by AMG won a hard fought game
against Lutterworth in atrocious conditions. Hinckley started
strongly with some determined rucking and soon went ahead through
Collings. Lutterworth hit back to level the scores at half time.
Considering the conditions the handling was superb and the
tackling was fierce. Hinckley continued to threaten the
Lutterworth line before a great break by Houghton was finished off
with the winning try from Campbell. Final score Bees 10 –
Lutterworth 5. Man of the Match was Campbell for his all
round performance and the Tackler of the Match went to
Lowndes for some superb tackling.
Unfortunately
as conditions deteriorated the Hinckley Under 10’s Hornets
game was called off.
Hinckley
Under 11’s, sponsored by TMS Volvo and J&H Construction,
kept a clean sheet in filthy conditions as they visited
Lutterworth. Despite a spirited start from their hosts, Hinckley
pressure soon told with Tuilagi opening the scoring as Hinckley
won the ball out of a Lutterworth scrum. Ruskin got the second
with a run off the back of a Hinckley scrum. Spencer closed the
first half with his maiden try from a great run off a fine
sequence through the hands of the Hinckley backs. Deteriorating
conditions worked in Hinckley’s favour in the second half with
fast flowing tries from Nixon and Williams. Atkinson ran in a pair
of tries in quick succession before Williams got his second and
the match closed as Ruskin also got his second for a final score
of Lutterworth 0 Hinckley 45. Man of the Match was shared
by the whole team for a quality performance in atrocious
conditions.
Hinckley
Under 14’s, sponsored by Williams Recycling, had been
hungry for some tough opposition given their recent run of wins,
and found it, in travelling to an unbeaten Worcester this season.
With little to separate the sides in the first half, and only a
breakaway score by Worcester just holding the lead at half time,
following Abelson’s score for Hinckley, Worcester’s breaks in the
second half stretched their lead, as Hinckley experimented in
changing formations, giving the team valuable match experience,
and lessons to learn from, in building their County team.
Man of the Match was jointly awarded to Cook and Redhead for
their absolute committment in the game.
The
Under 16’s, sponsored by J & H Construction Ltd, progressed
to the final of the County Plate Competition with a comprehensive
victory in atrocious conditions. Syston chose to play with the
wind behind them in the first half and Hinckley's forwards
consistently drove up-field from the start, with trys soon coming
from Knowles, Moule, and Bouchard to put Hinckley into a
comfortable lead. Syston’s main success was gained through the
lineout but any error was quickly pounced upon by Hinckley and
further scores again came from Marsden, Bailey, Cox, Crooks,
Morris (2), with conversions from Rooney, Oglesby and Marsden.
This was a forward lead victory with Hinckley on top form
presently. Hinckley 51 - Syston 0.
