“Juniors continue form as
U13’s through 1st round of their County Cup”
Whilst
the Hinckley Minis were in training this weekend, our young
Under 10’s, sponsored by AMG, Thermoskin & 600 Services, took
stock of the month’s performances to date, especially from their
19 new starters this season (just in the Under 10’s group), and
awarded Trophy Sunday Awards to…

Hinckley
Under 13’s, sponsored by JC Remedials, faced an undefeated
Oakham in the first round of their County Cup. Hinckley got off to
a good start and settled quickly. Hinckley’s lineouts provided a
solid attacking platform in pinching ball from Oakham, which
enabled a scrum to give Hinckley good territory near the 22m line.
The pressure continued, with another solid lineout 5 meters in
from the Oakham line, setting-up a Smalley pass to Cooper who ran
and passed to Mechin for him to go over in the opposite corner,
giving Hinckley the first points on the board. A scrum for Oakham
in front of the Hinckley posts was turned over and when Hinckley
got a scrum 5 meters in from their own posts, they made the most
of it with Tuilagi giving a good clearance kick. Good work by the
forwards and great defence left the score at half time, Hinckley 5
- Oakham 0.

The
second half saw Hinckley still continue their charged performance.
With good driving skills, Hinckley nearly made it over the line
but when given a 5-meter scrum, Weddle got the ball out and passed
to Tuilagi to go over the line under the posts, which he also
converted. Good play by Hinckley continued with a penalty kick
taken up by Smalley who passed to Mechin who ran half the length
of the pitch to go over the line making Hinckley’s 3rd try which
was converted by Tuilagi. Oakham never gave up though and tried
several times to get over the Hinckley line, with the nearest
coming 4 mins from the end when Mechin produced a try-saving
tackle to keep Hinckley’s clean sheet. Hinckley’s forwards worked
very well during the whole game winning scrums and dominating the
rucks and mauls, whilst the backs made sure the hard work paid
off. A great team game, with the final score Hinckley 19 - Oakham
0.

Hinckley
Under 14’s, sponsored by Williams Recycling, played
Lutterworth this weekend, and had their defences tested early on,
but managed to edge ahead through a first half score by Cull.
Hinckley found their form in the second half, and were quicker to
exploit any chances or Lutterworth mistakes, with further scores
run in by Simpson, Cull, Abelson, Shelton, and Tom; with Lally
converting 3 scores in the Hinckley 36 – Lutterworth 0 result.
Man of the Match was awarded to Walsh for his speed to the
breakdown.
A
separate development game between the rest of Hinckley’s Under
14’s squad and Ashby, provided great match experience for
Hinckley’s developing players at this age group with the match
ending Hinckley Development 0 – Ashby 25. Despite the result many
of these players are challenging hard for main team positions, and
put in great performances.
The
Under 16’s, sponsored by J & H Construction Ltd,
entertained Melbourne this weekend, for the first time. Melbourne
scored first, which only served to inspire the Hinckley forwards
into action and up-field drives which resulted in first half
scores from Bailey, Marsden, Cox and Moule to build a comfortable
lead for Hinckley. In the second-half Melbourne had to dig deep
and displayed some great defences, but Hinckley pressure resulted
in further scores from Rowan and a second try for Cox. Two Rooney
conversions and a final drop goal from Rooney himself finished the
game off, with a final score Hinckley 37 – Melborne 7. Another
impressive all-round performance for this Hinckley team who are
currently in good form.
