“Minis face Ashby”

Whilst most other weekend sporting fixtures cancelled due to heavy rain and waterlogged pitches, Hinckley Under 7’s sponsored by Hinckley Round Table were able to complete their fixture against Ashby RFC courtesy of Ashby’s all-weather facilities. The surface allowed a fast moving game to develop that was always going to suit pacey players and Ashby had a few of them. Against a very well coached and disciplined Ashby side, Hinckley had tough opponents.
In the first game despite two first half tries from Sharkey and one from Upton Hinckley went into the turnaround 20-15 down. Two further tries in the second half from Sharkey and Morrisey were not enough to prevent Ashby securing the match 35-25 at the final whistle.
The second game saw plenty of tries from both sides. Hinckley scored 6 in total with three from Whitehurst, two from Goldby and one from Morrisey. However, nine tries from Ashby saw them once again run out victors by 45 points to 30. An entertaining morning, but not the result that the travelling crowd had hoped for.

Hinckley’s Under 8’s sponsored by O'Hanlon & Skinner, faced a flying start from Ashby who went on to beat Hinckley 15-30 in the first game. J Gummery scored his first try for Hinckley with B Gummery and Cavanagh also crossing the try line.
The second game was very tight finishing all square. Points for Hinckley came from Jordan, Rickels and Roan, in the 15-15 result.
The third game was again a very evenly matched contest finishing in another draw, 20-20. Babb, Davies, B Gummery and Jordan all scored for Hinckley.
The final match was another end-to-end game with Hinckley just losing out in the end. Jordan scored twice with the other points coming from Gibson, Moore and Rickels. Hinckley 25 - Ashby 30.
