“Mini’s enjoy festive
encounter against Oadby Wyggs”
Hinckley
Under 7’s, sponsored by Hinckley Round Table, had an
enthusiastic turn out, on a very cold winters day at Oadby,
requiring a two team approach to give all players a run out, the
Lions and the Tigers.
The
Lions played in the first encounter against Oadby scoring a
magnificent 5 try’s, unfortunately Oadby were an equal match and
the final score was 25-25. Whilst there were some sterling
performers in this Lions team the outstanding performance was from
Chenery who scored all 5 try’s for Hinckley.
The
Hinckley Tigers then played and again scored a magnificent five
tries, unfortunately on this occasion a try in the dying seconds
by Oadby gave them a narrow win 25-30. This was a good team
performance by the Tigers with some good understanding between
Davey and Goldby, which ultimately resulted in Goldby scoring four
tries, followed up by a fantastic solo effort from Ellershall.
The
final game saw a combination of both Hinckley Lions and Tigers
players taking on an Oadby side rising in confidence after their
previous winning display. Again Hinckley ran in a superb five try
effort with Sharkey and Chenery contributing two apiece and the
ever-improving Goldby getting a try, but unfortunately Oadby
managed to score seven tries resulting in a Hinckley loss 25-35.
None the less it was good to see the enthusiasm and commitment
shine through today from all the children (and coaches and
parents) who had braved the cold conditions, a credit to
mini-rugby.
Hinckley’s
Under 8’s sponsored by O'Hanlon & Skinner, faced an Oadby
team which started in fine form with Hinckley fighting back in the
second half. Tries for Hinckley came from Gibson, Jordan,
Massarella, Rickels and Spencer, but Oadby’s early pressure won
out Hinckley 25 - Oadby 45.
The
second game was an end-to-end match with Hinckley fighting all the
way to finish on top, in the high scoring match Hinckley 60 -
Oadby 50. Massarella scored an amazing five times, Davies scored
three and Cavanagh crossed the line twice. The other points for
Hinckley came from Jordan and Rickels
In
the final game Hinckley fought hard against a very strong Oadby
side but lost out to some excellent passing skills in the Hinckley
10 - Oadby 35 result. Chamberlain and Massarella scored for
Hinckley.
The
Under 9's sponsored by Bronx UK, played some great rugby to
finish off their half-season, on a crisp frosty December morning.
On the last match of the year they defended and played really
well. Creative, supportive play enabled Hinckley to win two
matches and draw in the final one. Score lines were…
Oadby
0 - Hinckley 25, with tries from Hubbard, Heath 2, Bower and Raine.
Oadby
10 - Hinckley 35, with tries from Sharkey, Kershaw, Bower 3,
Campion and Pope
Oadby
15 - Hinckley 15, tries by Sharkey, Hubbard and Davis.
Hinckley
Under 10’s sponsored by AMG, Thermoskin and 600 Services,
fielded Bees and Hornets teams this weekend in their festive
encounter against Oadby Wyggs.
Hinckley
Bees first match with Oadby was closely contested. It started off
with a try from Bevan, but Oadby came straight back to even the
score. Baker took the ball from the scrum to drive over to put
Bees in front again, but Oadby again fought back to even the
score. In the second half Hinckley began powerfully with Baker
showing great determination for his 2 tries. Oadby pulled one back
before Houghton extended Hinckley’s lead. Oadby were rewarded with
a consolation try in the final move of the game but to make the
final score 25 points to 20 to Bees. Tackler of the Match
was Jackson and Man of the Match was Houghton.
Bees
second match against Oadby was a scrappy affair with a lot of
mistakes. Bees forwards got the better of Oadby to drive deep into
Oadbys half. They managed to play the ball out to Tuffin who still
had some work to do but glided in for a superb try. Oadby came
straight back to catch the Bees out with a simple try. Bees
continued to pressure Oadby, not allowing them a second on the
ball, Houghton picking up the loose ball laying off to Stretton
who played the ball to Campbell to sprint through Oadby’s defence
to win the match 10 points to 5. Tackler of the Match was
Bevan and Man of the Match was Baker for great performances
in both matches.
Hornets
started well with Ward giving Hinckley an early lead with a
powerful run slicing through Oadby’s defence, but Oadby got 2
quick tries in reply to lead 10-5 at half time. In the second half
Hornets lost their way allowing Oadby to take control of the match
and take a commanding lead 35 points to 5. As the game came to the
last play of the game the Hornets got a consolation try from White
to leave a final score of 35 to 10. Tackler of the Match
was Chenery and Man of the Match was Ward for his never say
die attitude.
