“Mini’s face Lutterworth as
Juniors travel to Lichfield”
On
a bright morning, Hinckley Under 7’s, sponsored by Hinckley
Round Table, entertained Lutterworth RFC on Hinckley Football
Club’s all-weather pitch. Hinckley fielded two sides as usual, The
Lions and The Tigers with the Lions running out winners in both of
their games.
In
their first match The Lions ran in five tries resulting in a 25-15
final score line with two tries each from Chenery and Sharkey and
one more from Morrisey. Their second game ended in a 20-10 win
after a hat trick of tries from Chenery and one from Sharkey.
The
Tigers faired equally as well in their first game after three
tries from Nixon, two from Hill-Crowfoot and one each from Ellison
and Payne resulted in a 35-25 final score. The second game ended
in a narrow defeat for the Tigers by 25 points to 20 despite two
tries from Payne and one each from Whitehurst and Hall-Crowfoot.
All
in all a successful day from the Under 7s assisted by the faster
pace of the all-weather pitch which seems to suit Hinckley’s fast
running style of play.
Hinckley’s
Under 8’s sponsored by O'Hanlon & Skinner, fielded two
teams (Bees and Wasps) against the visiting Lutterworth squad.
In
the first matches Hinckley started strongly with some good passing
play to clinch an early win. Massarella scored three tries,
Spencer crossed the line twice with B Gummery and Babb scoring one
each. Hinckley (Bees) 35 - Lutterworth 30.
On
the other pitch the Wasps played well as a team but lost to a
flying Lutterworth side. Jordan and Roan scored two each for
Hinckley. Hinckley (Wasps) 20 - Lutterworth 40
In
the second round of matches, the Bees had a close match with some
explosive running from both teams. Massarella and Spencer scored
two apiece with the other points coming from Davies and B Gummery.
Hinckley (Bees) 30 - Lutterworth 40.
Hinckley
Wasps again fought back hard in their second game but just lost
out in the end. Gibson and Jordan scored twice with the other
points coming from Lewis, Moore and Roan. Hinckley (Wasps) 35 -
Lutterworth 40.
In
the third and final set of games Hinckley Bees ran out of steam
but Cavanagh scored twice and Massarella added the final try.
Hinckley (Bees) 15 - Lutterworth 55.
The
final game for Wasps was another closely fought contest. Jordan
scored three tries with Lewis and Moore also crossing the line for
Hinckley. Hinckley (Wasps) 25 - Lutterworth 30.
The
Under 9's sponsored by Bronx UK, faced a fast Lutterworth
squad, and despite hard fought games with hard Hinckley tackling,
open spaces in defence allowed Lutterworth's sprinters through to
score.
In
the first match Raine scored for Hinckley, but Lutterworth
stretched ahead winning Hinckley 5 – Lutterworth 25. Hinckley
struggled in the next two matches of the morning loosing out 0-30
in both. It won’t be long however before this Hinckley team pick
themselves up and get back in the driving seat in their next
matches.
Hinckley
Under 10’s sponsored by AMG, Thermoskin and 600 Services,
fielded Bees and Hornets teams this weekend against Luttertworth.
Hinckley
Bees first match with Lutterworth was a game of two halves with
Hinckley taking charge in the first and leading 5-0 at half time.
The second half Lutterworth came back strongly and evened the
score but in the last play of the match the Bees scored a winning
try and win 10-5.Tackler of the Match was Jackson and
Man of the Match was awarded to Tuffin.
In
the Bees second match against Lutterworth, Hinckley commanded the
game from start to finish and winning convincingly 10-0.
Tackler of the Match was Collings and Man of the Match
was Bevan.
The
Hornets started slowly, Lutterworth taking advantage to lead 10-0
at half time. In the second half Lutterworth continued to find the
gaps and at the final whistle the score was 25-0. Tackler of
the Match was Lauder and Man of the Match awarded to
Thomas.
The
second Hornets game was a much closer affair with the team playing
some great rugby, not allowing Lutterworth time on the ball. The
Hornets continued to pressure Lutterworth but could not convert
this into points. As the game wore on Lutterworth came back into
the match scoring twice in quick succession to win 15-0. The
Hornets had put up a great performance and will take a lot from
this match. Tackler of the Match was awarded to Haffner and
Man of the Match was Ward for all his hard work in both
matches.
Hinckley
Under 11’s, sponsored by TMS Volvo and J&H Construction
hosted a keen Lutterworth side this weekend. Playing downhill,
Hinckley put immediate pressure on the visitors which Lutterworth
soaked up before making a strong counter attack. Hinckley’s
defence recovered the ball, which was passed down the line for a
fine run and the first try by Nixon. Hinckley confidence grew and
they moved the ball around well before Ruskin crossed the
whitewash for Hinckley‘s second. In the second half Hinckley
weathered strong Lutterworth pressure before Williams made a
punchy run from a Hinckley penalty to increase the gap. Atkinson
got the final try with Ruskin slotting three conversions for a
final score of Hinckley 26 - Lutterworth 0. Man of the Match
went to Jotham who is developing into a determined and first class
player.

A
development game followed with players trying new positions. Again
Hinckley strength dominated with Ruskin opening the scoring and
converting his try. This was followed by a determined team drive
with the ball being grounded by Tuilagi with the first half
culminating in another run and try by Atkinson. More changes for
the second half led to another try by Ruskin, converted by Tuilagi,
a rip and run try by Bowler that he converted and a try by Spencer
converted by Orton. The match finished with a well-deserved
consolation try for Lutterworth converted for a final score of
Hinckley 38 - Lutterworth 7. Man of the Match went to
Bowler for a sterling display in a new position in the second row.
An excellent day for Hinckley was rounded off with the
presentation of the County Plate that these two local
rivals shared at last season’s County Festival.
Hinckley
Under 13’s, sponsored by JC Remedials and Stoney Stanton
Fish & Chip Shop, travelled to Lichfield this weekend. Both team
started well, making good use of their skills and space on the
pitch. Lichfield’s strong forwards got straight to work winning a
lot of the loose ball. Hinckley had good moments in the rucks but
couldn’t get the ball out to the backs. Lichfield went ahead
through a penalty try, which was converted with Hinckley going
down to 14 players for 10 minutes. Lichfield took advantage of
this and with good skills they managed to score another try. Half
time Lichfield 12 - Hinckley 0.
The
second half started with Litchfield piling the pressure on
Hinckley. Hinckley defended well as they were pinned on their
line, but Lichfield worked the ball out into play and managed
another try. Hinckley made a few tactical changes but Lichfield
still found their way through for another try taking the final
score to Lichfield 22 - Hinckley 0.
