“Super 8s Mini Festival at
Welford Road”
Hinckley
Bees Under 10’s sponsored by AMG, Thermoskin and 600
Services, played in the Super 8s Trophy at Welford Road on Friday
1st February before the England Saxons vs Ireland A game.
Hinckley’s
first match was against Lutterworth. The Bees started well and
kept Lutterworth penned in the last third of the pitch for most of
the game. Hinckley continued to pressure Lutterworth but just
couldn’t find the try they deserved. As the game come to close the
Bees were awarded a penalty only to knock the ball on. Lutterworth
were quick to pick up the loose ball and run in for a winning try
and a 0-5 score.

Hinckley
faced Melton Mowbray in their second match; the two teams were
evenly matched and not giving an inch. Both teams cancelled each
other out and at the final whistle the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
The
final match was against Leicester Lions and again Hinckley started
well but this time converted their good play with a try. With some
powerful forward play Baker quickly shipped the ball out to Bevan
who passed onto Hughes to see him sprint his way into the corner
for a well deserved try. Hinckley continued to pressure the Lions
and should have finished the game off but for costly mistakes when
it mattered. Hinckley kept coming up short with their final ball,
Lions picking up a knock on quickly capitalised on this slicing
their way through Hinckley’s defence to snatch a 5-5 draw at the
death.
Hinckley
played some great rugby and it could have turned out better but
for making to many mistakes on the day. Lutterworth ended up
winning the Tournament beating Leicester Forest in the Final.
Tackler
of the tournament was Chris Hughes. Player of the
Tournament was Collings.
