“Mini’s host Leicester Lions
as Under 13’s overcome Coalville”
Hinckley’s
Under 8’s sponsored by O'Hanlon & Skinner, hosted Leicester
Lions, this weekend. Three matches were played with great spirit
and enthusiasm which resulted in some outstanding rugby from both
sides.
The
result in the first match Hinckley 30 - Lions 60, did not reflect
the great effort shown by Hinckley in a well-contested game. Tries
came from Spencer, Roan, Moore, Lewis with Gibson crossing the
line twice.
The
next match was another valiant effort from Hinckley with some
impressive breaks leading to two tries each for Spencer and
Chamberlain, and Massarella crossing the line once, with the match
ending Hinckley 25 - Lions 45.
The
third match was the game of the morning, with end-to-end action.
Hinckley demonstrated some outstanding support play but just lost
out to Lions in the final play of the game. Cavanagh got an
impressive three tries, with Roan scoring twice and Babb, Moore
and Spencer getting one each. Hinckley 40 - Lions 45.
Overall
some excellent performances from each of the Hinckley players,
however Man of the Match went to Spencer for his
outstanding tackling, individual breaks and four tries.
Hinckley
Under 9's, sponsored by Bronx UK and Kobs 4 U, enjoyed an
evenly matched fixture against Leicester Lions. Both teams
defended well, however Hinckley stretched themselves and managed
to win two games and draw one. The matches saw Hinckley starting
to pass the ball along the line, 'calling for the ball', with some
creative runs, passes and tackles. Leicester Lions scored some
well deserved tries, one with a great side step past Hinckley.
Great teamwork from players and support from the parents.

Hinckley
Under 10’s sponsored by AMG, Thermoskin and 600 Services,
fielded Bees and Hornets teams this weekend against Leicester
Lions.
Hinckley
Bees started strongly and took the lead with some great link up
play to see Campbell dive over the line for a brave and
well-deserved try. Bees continued to dominate and added another
try to win the match 10 - 0. The Man of the match went to
James who scored the final try with a great individual run.
Tackler of the match was awarded to Jackson.
The
second match between the two teams was a much tighter affair.
Lions scored first, but Bees fought their way back into the match
with a try from James. Hinckley quickly added another with some
great back play to feed Baker on the wing to score on the stroke
of half time. Final score Hinckley 10 Lions 5. Man of the match
was Houghton and Tackler of the match was Lowdnes.
Hornets
started very positively scoring two quick tries with their best
play of the season. The first try came from a determined break by
Cammiss. Then Ward drove through the Lions defence to score. Lions
fought their way back into the match to win 20 - 10. Man of the
match was Egginton after a great all round performance. Tackler of
the match was Hipwell. Hornet’s final match against Lions was
another close encounter. Hornets continued to pressure the Lions
but just could not convert this into the try they deserved. Lions
won the match 10 - 0. Man of the match was Ward and
Tackler of the match was White.
Under
10’s Player of the Month was Ames and Most Improved
Player was Hipwell.
Hinckley
Under 12’s sponsored by Nextgen Rigging took on a slightly
under strength Lions team, who to their credit never gave up in
the face of a very determined Hinckley side. In the first half
poor kicking decisions by Lions gave Hinckley a great start with C
Huggins scoring 4 tries - 2 from kicked clearances and with A
Holland and J Robson adding to the total the lads went into the
break 30 points to the good. The second half was again one way
traffic with A Beaty and T Bexon adding to the total after
punishing any defensive errors from the visitors. Final Score
Hinckley 40 – Leicester Lions 0
Hinckley’s
next game gave the development team their chance, and Hinckley’s
forwards quickly stamped their authority on a tiring Lions side,
tries from A Reid, A Holland and T Bexon deciding the game. Final
score Hinckley Development 20 – Leicester Lions 0.
Hinckley
Under 13’s sponsored by JC Remedials and Stoney Stanton
Fish & Chip Shop faced Coalville in their match this weekend.
Smalley
spearheaded Hinckley’s initial efforts with a breaking run,
followed up by an attacking pack. Hinckley contested in the
lineouts to win good ball and remain in Coalville’s half. The game
continued in mostly centre field but then a good ruck from
Coalville won the ball and passed out their line to score but
missed the conversion. Another Coalville breakaway threatened but
a good tackle from Hinckley’s McMurran stopped them scoring,
holding the score at half time to Coalville 5 - Hinckley 0.
The
second half started with great work from Hinckley to create an
early score from great passing to Mechin who scored. A great
cross-field kick from Smalley to Mechin found a way through
Coalville’s defences as Mechin went on to score. Hinckley
continued to dominate this half with more good moves from the
forwards

who released the ball to the backs and on to Smalley who went over
the line to score, which Tuilagi then converted. With Hinckley on
the attack, Mechin then chased a kick and caught it on the bounce,
to go over the line for his 3rd try, which was again converted by
Tuilagi. Hinckley were now on fire and didn’t let Coalville back
into the game.
Another
well-worked Hinckley scrum allowed Whitehurst to pick up and run
to score Hinckley’s final try which Tuilagi converted one more.
Final score Coalville 5 - Hinckley 31.
Hinckley
Under 14’s sponsored by Williams Recycling and Promet
Steel, faced Northampton Old Scouts this weekend. Hinckley,
although slightly under strength, opened strongly with a switched
on pack, which tore through the Old Scouts defences for an opening
score by Redhead in the first minutes of the game. However shortly
after this, it was as if someone had switched off the lights in
the Hinckley team, and a lacklustre performance resulted in an Old
Scouts 34 – Hinckley 5 result. Back to the drawing board for this
Hinckley team, which remains a formidable force when they find the
light switch!
