“Mini’s
vs. South Leicester”
The
Under 7’s sponsored by Hinckley Round Table, turned out in
numbers once again allowing the coaches to adopt the two team
approach, naming them the Lions and the Tigers.
The
first game saw a one sided contest between Hinckley Lions and
South Leicester, with the Lions running in 10 tries to win 50-20.
As has been the case all season Sharkey put in an outstanding
individual performance to cross the try line five times, with
Ellershall scoring three tries and Chenery two tries.
The
second game saw Hinckley Tigers also dominate proceedings from
start to finish running out 45-10 winners with another outstanding
individual performance from Morrissey who scored four tries, other
try scorers were Thorpe(2), Bevan, Nixon and Hall-Crowfoot.

Hinckley Under 7's
Hinckley
Under 8’s sponsored by O'Hanlon & Skinner, started well
taking an early lead against South Leicester. Their opponents came
back in the second half to just clinch a very close match.
Cavanagh scored three for Hinckley, Babb two and one each for
Jordan, Massarella and Spencer. Hinckley 40 - South Leicester 45.
The
second match was another closely fought contest with Hinckley
finishing ahead. Babb, Cavanagh, Chamberlain, Gibson and Jordan
all crossed the line for Hinckley. Hinckley 25 - South Leicester
20.
The
final game was another end to end match with South Leicester
coming out on top in the end. Cavanagh and Massarella scored two
each with Gibson adding the other try. Hinckley 25 - South
Leicester 30.
Hinckley
Under 9’s, sponsored by Bronx UK made the most of the good
weather with an early first try from Franklin. Hinckley began to
dominate in the phases with strong running and tackling, and
strong running from Brogden brought a try. Miller scored next,
followed by Kershaw and Sharkey and again Brogden. Hinckley’s
great defence kept South Leicester scoreless. South Leicester 0 -
Hinckley 30.
In
their next match, Hinckley again got off to a flying start with a
good try by Brogden. Bower scored soon after with strong running,
with the excellent Miller getting a hat-trick. In the dying
moments of the game it looked like a score was coming from South
Leicester, but a great try-saving tackle from Brooks again kept
South Leicester scoreless. South Leicester 0 - Hinckley 25.
Hinckley
Under 10’s sponsored by AMG, Thermoskin and 600 Services,
fielded Bees and Hornets teams this weekend against South
Leicester.
Hinckley
Bees sprung into action with an electric run from Gage to give the
Bees an early lead. South Leicester came fighting back but just
couldn’t break Hinckley’s strong defence and with the Bees
weathering the storm began to drive their opponents’ back into
there own half. A mistake from South Leicester, and Rowe was quick
to pounce on the loose ball and score.
The
second half Hinckley began to dominate the play with two very
powerful tries coming from Bevan, South Leicester picking up an
consolation try but the Bees had the final word with some great
link up play from Baker to Ames and Collings finishing off a fine
move to win the match 25 points to 5.
The
Man of the Match award went to Gage and Tackler of the
Match went to Bevan.
The
Hornets match was a very evenly fought game both teams making some
crunching tackles not allowing either side to break through their
defences.
South
Leicester opened up the scores catching the Hornets asleep early
in the second half but the Hornets came flying back with some
great forward play they were awarded a scrum deep in south
Leicester half and Castle taking full advantage of a good scrum to
weave his way past South Leicester defence to even the match up.
The Hornets found themselves penned in their own half and as they
tried desperately to move the ball out, South Leicester stole the
ball to score. The Hornets again fought their way back with a
great individual try coming from Padbury but again South Leicester
scored to take the lead.
As
the game came to a close the Hornets threw everything at their
opposition but just couldn’t get the try they deserved with the
final score South Leicester winning 15 points to 10. Man of the
Match was awarded to Padbury and Tackler of the Match
going to Griffiths.
With
Hinckley Under 12’s on tour and both sides short on numbers
during the Easter break, Hinckley Under 11’s, sponsored by
TMS Volvo and J&H Construction played two development games away
to a combined South Leicester Under 11’s and Under 12’s squad.
South
Leicester started brightly but Hinckley defence held firm and a
well-worked counter attack saw Brown ground the ball in the corner
to open the scoring. Atkinson added to the score with a good run
before setting Nixon up for the third. South Leicester kept their
shape and scored a converted try in reply. Ruskin converted all of
Hinckley’s first half tries for a half time score, South Leicester
7 - Hinckley 21. Hinckley controlled the second half with another
try by Nixon, converted by Williams and two by Ruskin off the back
of attacking scrums, converted by Ruskin and Nixon. Final score
South Leicester 7 - Hinckley 40 with Man of the Match going
to Coupland for a determined performance in a new position in
second row.
Hinckley
maintained the pressure in the second match with Ruskin opening
the scoring, charging down a South’s clearance with the conversion
by Brown. Well-worked backs moves added to the first half score
with tries by Atkinson and Bowler with the last being converted by
Orton. Half-time South Leicester 0 - Hinckley 19. South Leicester
really tightened up for the second half with Hinckley struggling
to break through until Bowler charged down a desperate clearance
kick and got the bounce for a final try which was converted by
Bruce who had a superb debut with committed tackling. Final score
South Leicester 0 - Hinckley 26 with Man of the Match going
to Jotham, again for commitment in a new position in second row.
Hinckley
Under 17's returned to the fray for the first time this
season with a 16-9 county cup semi-final victory over local rivals
Lutterworth to set themselves up for the county cup final with
Syston on April 13th. In a sterling team performance Jack Loveday
scored an early short range try with Chris Cooke converting and
