“Under 17’s through to County
Final, as Juniors tackle Oadby Wyggs”
Last
week, Hinckley Under 17's, sponsored by Mander Cruickshank
Solicitors returned to the fray for the first time this season
with a 16-9 county cup semi-final victory over local rivals
Lutterworth to set themselves up for the county cup final with
Syston on April 13th. In a sterling team performance Jack Loveday
scored an early short-range try with Chris Cooke converting and
taking three further penalties.
Hinckley
Under 10’s, sponsored by AMG, Thermoskin and 600 Services
took the opportunity to present Trophy Sunday awards as follows:

of the Month – Reeves
Most
Improved Player – Griffiths
This
weekend, Hinckley Under 13’s, sponsored by JC Remedials and
Stoney Stanton Fish & Chip Shop, hosted Oadby Wyggs and both teams
got off to a steady start in the opening minutes of the game.
Hinckley was on the back foot for some time but defended well and
then came alive looking hungry for some points. An Oadby mistake
from a clearance kick allowed Hinckley’s Mechin to take advantage
with a great pick up and strong run to the line to score the first
points of the game. With quick ball from the restart, Hinckley
attacked with a great effort from the forwards who were soon, well
inside the Oadby half. Good work in the maul and handling enabled
a second try from Phillips. Oadby dug in for a while and defended
well but Hinckley continued to dominate the play, with Oadby’s
resolute tackling preventing further scores. Half time score
Hinckley 10 – Oadby Wyggs 0
Hinckley
started well in the second half and from the kick-off Hinckley
returned the kick and with a great follow up and good gathering of
the ball, Mechin went over for his second try of the game for the
home side. Hinckley was now in total control of the game and
another great run and offload of the ball to Whitehurst set-up a
further unconverted score. Hinckley again worked hard from the
restart, and again released quick ball down the backs to Mechin
who ran on to score again for Hinckley. Oadby were on the back
foot but didn’t give in and were rewarded by scoring a try in the
corner of the field. After Oadby’s fight back, Hinckley again
continued to dominate the play and possession and with presence of
mind, Smalley placed a cross-field kick to the wing and with a
lucky bounce of the ball, it was collected by Mechin for his
fourth try of the game. Final score Hinckley 30 – Oadby Wyggs 5.
Hinckley
Under 14’s sponsored by Williams Recycling and Promet
Steel, had a good game against Oadby Wyggs, with both sides
rotating their large squads through an extended match. Despite
determined phases of play from Oadby, Hinckley’s defences held
strong and always looked dangerous on the attack resulting in an
Oadby 7 – Hinckley 35 score-line, with tries from Redhead (2),
Lally, Walsh and new player Sherwin earning his first score. Lally
earned the ‘backs’ Man of the Match for his faultless
display of long range kicking, and recent addition Harris earned
his first ‘forwards’ Man of the Match award for a committed
and hard working performance up-front.
Hinckley
Under 16’s sponsored by J&H Construction Ltd., were slow to
start against Oadby and were behind 12 points when Crooks received
the ball on his own 22 line and sprinted the 80 meters to score,
which Oglesby converted. Oadby then went on to score a penalty.
Hinckley's forwards raised the tempo in response and Bailey then
forced his way over. Crooks added to the assault and dashed in
from 30 metres to take the lead. Hinckley then conceded a penalty
in front of their posts and Oadby pressed ahead again. Hinckley
then dug deep to find another try for Crooks to complete his hat
trick, by breaking 2 tackles and scoring under the posts which
Oglseby converted for a hard fought victory. Oadby Wyggs 18 -
Hinckley 24.
